Color Contrast Checker
Check the contrast ratio of two colors against WCAG, AA and AAA.
Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent or stored.
Good to know
The ratio follows the WCAG 2 formula: relative luminance of the lighter color plus 0.05, divided by that of the darker color plus 0.05. We round down so that a threshold is not met just because of rounding.
Large text means 24 pixels or more, or 18.66 pixels or more in bold. For icons, input borders and focus rings, 3:1 applies.

Frequently asked questions
Which level do I need?
For most websites WCAG AA is the goal, so 4.5:1 for normal text. The German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) requires this for many services as well.
Does transparency count?
No. Enter the color that is actually visible as a hex value.
Are my colors stored?
No. Everything stays in your browser.
